What does "detection limit" mean (as indicated in my analysis report)?

The detection limit of an assay is the smallest quantity of the target which can be detected (but not necessarily quantified).
The detection limit is expressed in a number of genome or gene copies of a pathogen, for one analysis.
It is determined by statistical analysis, according to the European Pharmacopoeia recommendations.
